How these numbers are built
- Diapers: $960 a year. The National Diaper Bank Network (founding sponsor: Huggies) puts diapers for infants “at a cost of $80 to $100 or more per month per baby” (fact sheet, last updated June 2023). The fact sheet prints no yearly figure: the calculator applies its low end to all 12 months ($80 × 12), at every spending style.
- Childcare: $15,015 a year, the low end of Child Care Aware of America’s 2025 national averages for infant care in a center ($15,015 to $15,728 a year across its three methods). CCAoA’s report and methodology pages do not state the weekly hours behind them.
- Clothing: about $385, $1,850 or $2,810 (one hat-and-mitten set left out) for budget, middle or premium, from our first-year baby clothes cost study (regular list prices, September 2026). UK baby clothes costs, in pounds.
