Baby & Toddler Clothing Size Chart by Age, Weight and Height

Looking for more than a chart? Our complete baby sizes-by-age guide adds a free size calculator, brand-fit notes and how many of each size to buy.

Getting the size right is the easiest way to love what you order. Use this baby and kids clothes size chart to choose by your child's age, weight and height — preemie to 4T. If your little one falls between two rows, size up for a little more room to grow (sleepwear is the exception — see the FAQ below).

How to measure your child

  • Height: stand them against a wall, heels flat, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
  • Weight: use your home scale — it's the quickest way to match a size for babies.
  • Chest: measure around the fullest part, under the arms, keeping the tape snug but not tight.

Frequently asked questions

What age is "Newborn" size, and when should I size up to 0–3M?
Newborn is cut for babies up to about 6–9 lb and 17–21.5 in (43–55 cm) — usually up to about 1 month. Many babies wear it for only a week or two, and babies born larger often go straight into 0–3M, so buy light on Newborn pieces and keep the tags on in case you need to exchange.
Should I go by my baby's age, weight, or height?
Weight is the more reliable guide, then height — brands print an age on the label, but babies of the same age can differ by several pounds. If your baby falls between two rows on the chart above, size up for comfort and a bit more wear. Sleepwear is the exception: non-flame-resistant baby sleepwear is made to fit snugly as a safety feature under U.S. flammability rules set by the CPSC, so follow the garment's own size guide there instead of sizing up.
What does "80" mean on European baby clothes?
European sizes are based on height in centimetres — size 80 fits a baby up to about 80 cm (31.5 in) tall, which typically lines up with around 12 months, or roughly a US 9–12M to 12–18M depending on the brand's cut. Measure your baby's height and choose the number at or just above it.
Where do these size ranges come from?
The chart above is compiled from brand-published size charts (Burt's Bees Baby, Carter's, Gerber and Gap; retrieved September 2026).
