The Baby Halloween Costume Demand Curve (US and UK)

The Baby Halloween Costume Demand Curve (US and UK)

American parents search for baby Halloween costumes far harder than British parents, yet both markets run the same clock. In an analysis of Ahrefs search-demand data, Babbez found US interest peaks at 25,021 searches in October — about 1.6× the UK peak of 15,176 — then collapses roughly 95% within a single month once the 31st has passed.

Key takeaways

  • One giant month. October alone accounts for about 40% of the whole year’s US baby-Halloween-costume searches, and almost exactly 50% of the UK’s.
  • The climb is steep and late. Demand is nearly flat for the first half of the year, then jumps about 162% from July to August in the US before peaking in October.
  • The drop is faster than the climb. US searches fall roughly 95% from October to November; UK searches fall about 97% — the sharpest cliff in the dataset.
  • Same season, different scale. Both markets peak in October and bottom out in December, but US demand runs about 1.6× the UK level at the peak.

This is a search-interest study. Figures are average monthly Google searches (via Ahrefs) for the term “baby halloween costume” unless a specific month is named; they reflect what parents look for online, not what they buy.

When do parents search for baby Halloween costumes?

Overwhelmingly in October. When we plotted the full 12-month search-interest curve for both markets, demand stayed quiet from January through June, stirred over the summer, then spiked into a single towering October peak — 25,021 searches in the US and 15,176 in the UK — before falling off a cliff in November. In our data, October by itself carries about 40% of the entire US year and close to 50% of the UK year.

Month US (searches/mo) UK (searches/mo)
January 500 99
February 664 188
March 718 63
April 830 160
May 912 218
June 1,367 454
July 3,953 912
August 10,344 3,524
September 16,792 9,104
October (peak) 25,021 15,176
November 1,268 399
December 412 41

For the first six months of the year, US demand never clears 1,367 a month and UK demand never clears 454 — a rounding error next to the autumn surge. Aug–Oct alone hold about 83% of the US year and roughly 92% of the UK year. In other words, five-sixths to nine-tenths of all annual interest is packed into a three-month window.

How fast does demand ramp and collapse?

It builds over about three months and then vanishes in one. We call this shape the Countdown Rule: baby-Halloween-costume interest climbs on a predictable countdown toward October 31, accelerating each month as the date nears, and then falls off a cliff the moment the occasion has passed — because a costume bought on November 1 is a costume bought a year too late.

Month US (searches/mo) US change (vs prior mo) UK (searches/mo) UK change (vs prior mo)
July 3,953 912
August 10,344 +162% 3,524 +286%
September 16,792 +62% 9,104 +158%
October 25,021 +49% 15,176 +67%
November 1,268 −95% 399 −97%
December 412 −67% 41 −90%

Counterintuitively, the collapse is steeper than the climb. One of the sharpest jumps on the way up is the US July-to-August leap of about 162%, and the single-month fall from October to November erases roughly 95% of US demand and about 97% of UK demand. By December, UK interest sits at just 41 searches — about 0.3% of its own October peak — giving Britain a peak-to-trough swing near 370×, against roughly 61× in the US. November is already a ghost month, holding only about 5% of the US peak and about 2.6% of the UK peak.

Do American and British parents follow the same Halloween clock?

Yes, almost identically — they differ only in scale. When we compared the two 12-month curves, both markets ramp through August and September, peak in October, and bottom out in December; contrary to the transatlantic mismatch we see on many seasonal baby items, there is no month-shift here at all. The one clear gap is volume, with US October demand running about 1.6× the UK figure.

Measure US UK
Peak month October October
Peak volume (searches/mo) 25,021 15,176
Low month December December
Low volume (searches/mo) 412 41
Peak-to-low swing ~61× ~370×
October share of the year ~40% ~50%
Aug–Oct share of the year ~83% ~92%

The UK curve is even more concentrated than the American one: a larger slice of Britain’s smaller annual total lands in that single October box. So while the US market is bigger in raw searches, the UK is the more seasonally extreme of the two.

Why this matters

For parents, the demand curve is a rough proxy for the crowd. Interest is already climbing steeply by August and September — up about 62% into September in the US and about 158% in the UK — so the calm months to research are the ones before the summer, not October, when the search field is at its most crowded. For retailers and writers, the Countdown Rule is a planning tool, not a permanent evergreen: a page that assumes steady year-round interest misreads a term where roughly 12 months of attention is really one big month with a long runway and a hard stop.

Methodology

Babbez analyzed Google search-demand data (via Ahrefs) for the term “baby halloween costume” in the United States and the United Kingdom, captured September 2026. Figures are the average monthly search volume for each calendar month across a full 12-month curve. Month-over-month changes, peak shares, and peak-to-low ratios are calculated from those monthly figures. This is search-interest data — a measure of what parents look for online, not a measure of sales.

Frequently asked questions

When do most parents search for baby Halloween costumes?

Search interest peaks sharply in October in both the US and the UK. In our data US demand reaches 25,021 searches in October and UK demand reaches 15,176, after climbing through August and September.

How early does baby Halloween costume demand start rising?

The climb becomes steep in August. US searches jump to 10,344 in August and 16,792 in September, while UK searches move from 3,524 to 9,104 across those same two months.

Does search interest stay high after Halloween?

No. Demand collapses almost immediately. US searches fall about 95% from October to November and UK searches fall about 97%, dropping close to the yearly low by December.

Do British and American parents search on the same schedule?

Yes. Both markets peak in October and bottom out in December. The main difference is scale, with US October demand running about 1.6 times the UK figure.

Is this sales data?

No. These figures are average monthly Google searches measured via Ahrefs. They show search interest and attention, not units sold.
