Babbez publishes original, independent research on how US baby-clothing brands handle sizing, pricing, and transparency. Every finding on this page is free to cite with attribution to Babbez and a link to the study. Four data studies are live, covering 20–64 brands each and updated for 2026.

Four original studies, each with a brand-by-brand table and a transparent method. Reporters, writers, and parents are welcome to quote the headline findings below.

Baby Clothing Size Index 2026
Headline finding. Across 30 US brands, the same label is not the same size. The “3–6M” label alone tops out anywhere from 14.5 lb to 20 lb depending on the brand.
Method. We read the published weight/height size charts of 30 US baby-clothing brands and compared the ranges each brand assigns to the same label. (30 US brands, 26 size labels, September 2026.)

Baby Clothes Price Index 2026
Headline finding. The same six-piece newborn starter set (bodysuit, sleeper, set, cardigan, hat, socks) costs about $38 to $215 depending on the brand — a five- to six-fold difference for near-identical basics.
Method. We priced one fixed six-item “newborn starter set” across 23 US baby-clothing brands and recorded the cost of each piece. (23 US brands, September 2026.)

Size-Chart Transparency Index 2026
Headline finding. Of 60 US baby brands assessed, 56 publish a size chart but only 50 give both weight and height, 9 publish it only as an image (not machine-readable), and 4 publish none.
Method. We checked whether each brand publishes a baby size chart, whether it gives both weight and height, and whether it is text or image-only. (64 US brands checked, 60 assessed, September 2026.)

Organic-Claim Verifiability Index 2026
Headline finding. Of 20 US brands that advertise GOTS-certified organic cotton, only 4 publish a certificate number a parent can look up (Frugi, Burt’s Bees Baby, Under the Nile, MakeMake Organics), and only 2 of those numbers resolve in the official GOTS public registry.
Method. For each brand advertising GOTS organic cotton, we checked whether a certificate/licence number is published and whether it resolves in the official GOTS public registry. (20 US brands, September 2026.)
