24 Months vs 2T: The Real Difference (+ What 2T Means)
24 months and 2T cover almost the same age — so what's the difference, and which should you buy? Here's the honest answer, with the numbers, based on brands' published charts (we compare published charts; we don't test garments).
Short answer: 24M (24 months) is cut for a younger baby — often still crawling, roomier through the middle for a diaper. 2T is cut for a walking, potty-learning toddler — a bit longer in the body and slimmer, with room to move. On brands' published charts 2T also runs slightly bigger: about +1 lb and +2 inches vs 24M. If your child is walking, active, or in the middle of potty training, pick 2T; if they're younger or petite, 24M often fits longer.
What does "2T" mean?
The "T" stands for toddler. 2T is designed for roughly a 2-year-old, but it's the fit — not just the age — that changes: toddler sizes are shaped for a child who's upright and on the move, so they're a little longer and less baggy than baby sizes. That's why some children wear 24M and 2T at the same time in different brands.

Which should I buy?
Choose 2T if your child is walking/running, potty training (easier on/off), tall for their age, or between the two — 2T lasts longer.
Choose 24M if your child is younger than ~2, petite, still in a lot of daytime diapers, or you want a closer fit now.
Does 2T run big or small?
It depends on the brand. On published charts, some brands (e.g. Old Navy, Cat & Jack) run smaller, so their 2T fits a lighter toddler; others run bigger. Some brands even skip 24M and jump 18M → 2T. Check the exact brand before buying — see our size charts by brand (runs big/small on paper).
