Baby, Toddler & Kids Shoe Size Chart (by Foot Length & Age)
Measure your child’s foot, then read the size — don’t guess by age. US kids’ shoe sizes are based on foot length, so the reliable way to size baby, toddler and kids shoes is to measure the foot in centimetres (or inches) and match it below. This chart reconciles the published foot-length charts of six sources (See Kai Run, Carter’s/OshKosh, Clarks, pediped, Nike and the US barleycorn standard) so the numbers agree. For fit only — we compare published charts and make no medical or foot-health claims.

Tip: add about 0.5 in (1.3–1.5 cm) of growing room beyond the bare foot — this chart already builds that in.

How to read it: the cm / inch foot length is the reliable field — US sizes are length-based (one half-size ≈ 1/6 inch / 4.23 mm). EU and UK are typical equivalents that vary by roughly ±0.5–1 point between brands. “C” = child/little-kid, “Y” = youth/big-kid; the ladder runs 0C–13C then restarts at 1Y.
How to measure your child’s foot
- Put a sheet of paper against a wall. Stand your child on it, heel to the wall (measure standing — feet spread under weight).
- Mark the tip of the longest toe (not always the big toe).
- Measure heel-to-mark in centimetres. Do both feet and use the larger one.
- Measure late in the day (feet swell slightly). Match the length in the converter above.
The honest caveats
- MEASURE THE FOOT, don't guess by age. Age columns are ROUGH (feet vary hugely between children of the same age) and are the least reliable field here.
- cm foot length is the primary truth: US kids sizes are length-based (1/6 inch = 4.23 mm per half-size). Trust the cm/inch range over the printed US number.
- Measure both feet standing (weight-bearing), heel to longest toe, ideally late in the day, and use the LARGER foot.
- Growing room: most fitters add about 0.5 inch (~1.3-1.5 cm) beyond the bare foot length, which is why published charts (and this table) sit slightly below the pure barleycorn foot-length math.
- Under age ~2, feet grow fast (commonly about a half size every 2-3 months); re-measure every ~2-3 months.
- BRANDS VARY. Confirm against the specific brand's own chart before buying. Notable: Nike kids run ~1 size large at the baby end vs the consensus (e.g. Nike labels an 11 cm foot 5C, while See Kai Run/Carter's/Clarks call ~11 cm a 4-4.5C).
- EU and UK equivalents are TYPICAL and vary by roughly +/- 0.5 to 1 point between brands (EU uses Paris points); treat them as approximate. The cm<->US mapping is the reliable anchor.
- US notation: 'C' = child/little-kid, 'Y' = youth/big-kid. The ladder runs 0C-13C then restarts at 1Y (13C ~= 18.9 cm, 1Y ~= 19.8 cm). UK numbering resets after UK 13.5 (US 1Y = UK 13.5, US 1.5Y = UK 1).
- Fit reference only. This dataset makes NO medical, podiatric, or developmental claims; it does not assert any size prevents or causes any foot condition.
How we built this chart
Built by reconciling foot-length-to-US-size charts from six independent authoritative sources (See Kai Run, Carter's/OshKosh, Clarks, pediped, Nike, and the US-customary/barleycorn standard). US kids' sizing is LENGTH-based: one full size = one barleycorn = 1/3 inch (8.47 mm) and each half-size = 1/6 inch (4.23 mm). We anchored the ladder at US 4C = 11.30 cm foot length (the tight median of See Kai Run, Carter's and Clarks) and stepped it by exactly 4.23 mm per half-size, then verified every row against each published chart. Values are recommended MAX foot length per size (fit-with-room); Nike was found to run ~1 size large at the baby end and was treated as an outlier, not part of the numeric median.
